Mythology is taken very seriously in Hell. It forms the bedrock of much of it's primal history and a grand portion of it's people's theoretical evolution. As ludicrous as it sounds, all of Hell's population of Demons and Abyss Life is written to have stemmed from six beings: Echinera, Behemoth, and Behemoth's four children, the Calamities. These four creatures of mammoth presence are heralds of destruction even in name. Whether or not they still live is a topic of heated debate amongst scholars. Not too long ago it had been proclaimed that the Third Calamity, known to some Demon-folk as Ma'a, was still running rampant over Hell. The commotion that had resulted from this claim was ridiculous.
The Third Calamity has been charted as the most destructive of the Four, having leveled many cities and being more than partially responsible for the sundering of Eden into it's now scattered pieces. I had gone to investigate this claim myself, as the discriptions given of the spotted Calamity sounded foolishly inferior to the ancient texts that record the deviousness of the Four. I had found the culprit swiftly enough, and though terrifying in her sheer girth, the accused was not the Third Calamity at all. It would be easy to mistake a Matriarch, a Demon of the Gluttous-Major category, for Ma'a. They are belived to be direct descendants of the Third Calamity's blood, but Ma'a is a creature of such whispered deed that this one being is hardly a shade in comparison. ~ The Revealer Portfolio piece. I think this is pretty good for a semi-full digital piece. It's a first! *does a mental dance* =zenrider suggested that I try out more colour and digital works in my last "poll". I thought that since I got such a great response from the WIP of this piece that I should finish it as a part of going with that suggestion. Thanks for all the feedback in the previous WIP and the poll-journal, folks, it's awesome. Here's a process of sorts for this piece: [link] And some full working-size screen-caps: [link] This is 50% the final size. All Open Canvas and a pencil drawing underneath. The only thing that didn't turn out was the ground, which is too bad. I couldn't figure out what to do with it. Art and character © to me, *Phantasmagora. All rights reserved. Wow, you're off to a great start with using more color. Again your creature design is incredible, and I love the characters in the foreground that give this guy some scope. If this is you just trying this out, I'm terrified to see what you'll be kicking out in a year or so.

Really, its fantastic! The colors are perfect! -- Huge Commission Sale! Help a pirate pay her bills Yet more good stuff from you! I really like the way the creature seems to fade away lower down it's body. Seems more mystical, in a way. Those lightning effects are cool as well-keep it up!

Thanks! That's a cool idea, but for this image I'm not sure if it would work aesthetically, since the sheer size of the creature itself wouldn't allow for much of it to really be in focus (I'm being nit-picky I know). Thanks for the suggestion though, that's something I will keep in mind for something in the future.
